Northern Light: Jewish Life in the Frozen North Magazine Design for Fairbanks Jewish Center Northern Light is a long-form print magazine documenting Jewish life in Fairbanks, Alaska—one of the most remote Jewish communities in the world. Designed as the inaugural volume, the publication brings together history, documentary storytelling, and contemporary community life into a cohesive, archival-quality magazine. The design draws from the Alaskan landscape itself: dark, atmospheric tones, strong typographic hierarchy, and spacious layouts that support extended reading. Photography and narrative are treated with restraint, allowing the stories—of resilience, continuity, and quiet Jewish life at the edge of the map—to lead. The result is a magazine that feels grounded, timeless, and intentional—presenting Jewish life in the Arctic not as a novelty, but as a living, enduring community.
